Primary School Junior Training Group
This group experiences an introduction to the basic skills of athletics using the England Athletics 365 programme of 'Run, Jump, Throw'.
Emphasis in training sessions is on enjoyment through personal improvement. Regular attendance guarantees improvement.
Training times are as follows:
Years 3 and 4: Mondays 6:30pm - 7:30pm (Indoors during the Winter)
Years 5 and 6: Thursdays 6:30pm - 7:30pm
Please arrive by 6:20pm to allow ample time for registration and warm up.
Athletes are encouraged to compete in the monthly Devon Sports Hall League and Gliddon & Squire Cross Country League during the winter and the Devon Series Track and Field Series in the summer.
As soon as Year 6 athletes reach 11 years of age they also become eligible for the North Devon AC team which competes in the UK National Young Athletes League.
Each group operates throughout the year and in all safe weather conditions.

Athletes should bring appropriate clothing for the weather conditions on the day – always bring warm, waterproof clothing, hat and gloves in the winter.

Sprint Group • ‘Gill and Ryan’s Group'

Training starts at 18:30. Please try to arrive by 6.15 in order to have time to register and warm up.

Now its getting colder and wetter you will need to bring several layers of clothes — including a waterproof coat, long trousers, hat and gloves. For the first few weeks you will not need spikes unless it is icy.
We do expect you to attend regularly. Winter training is all about building up your strength and stamina for next years competitions. Due to the progressive nature of the winter training program, it is essential that you attend on a regular basis. Anyone missing successive sessions will struggle to keep up in the next session they attend. This in turn will affect your ability to compete strongly next season.
Anyone not attending for four consecutive weeks without explanation may lose their place within the group. We do have a waiting list.
Whilst you may find the endurance training boring, it is essential that you work as hard as you can in order to make the most of the sprint work that comes later. We do what we do for a reason, so please try to do what we ask. We are happy for you to chat with your friends or listen to music (via an IPod or similar in one ear only) for the first few sessions, but it is important that you work to the best of your ability — not that of your best friend!
We will also expect you to take part in the Sports Hall competitions
Training ends at approximately 19:45 (although there are possibly a couple that may run over, depending on how you get on!) — and we expect you to complete the sessions!

It sounds as though we expect a lot — and we do! But we also want to make it as enjoyable and worthwhile for you as we can — that’s up to you!

Older Sprint Group • ‘Gary and Rob’s Group’

Middle Distance Development Group: ‘Steve and Paul’s Group’.

Senior Middle Distance Group • ‘Mark’s Group’   Meets at 18:15.

Speed through strength — realise your potential!
This group caters for 400m, 800m 1500m though to 5000m including steeple chase.
This is not age group led and is open to anyone prepared to commit and wishing to take ownership of their training. We currently have athletes ranging from 13 to 60.
All sessions are graded by ability and not age. We meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays and most Sundays at various venues. Check the diary.
Involves a comprehensive program of: Endurance, Interval sets, Hills, Threshold, Plyometrics, Circuits, and Weights.
Athletes feed in mostly from the Development Middle Distance Group but athletes from all groups do and are welcome to drop in any time.
Want to find out how speed endurance can help you realize your potential?

Throws Training Group • ‘Colin’s Group’
Throws group is run by Colin Petty, Mike Carty and Colin Dart. It’s open to anyone preferably over 13 yrs of age who isn’t interested in busting their lungs running round the track but would like to throw shot, discus, hammer or javelin.
