UKA Qualified coaches are available to assist with training requirements.
Training Nights
Summer: Tuesdays and Thursdays 18:30 to 20:30 (18:15 for Middle Distance/Endurance group).
Winter: September to April, Tuesday from 18:30 (18:15 for Middle Distance/Endurance group) plus other nights of the week depending on which training group you are part of. Indoor coaching takes place at Pilton and Braunton Schools. Cross Country training is also available for middle/long distance runners.
There is a training fee of £1.50 per session.

Athletes are broadly divided into five different training groups:
Primary School Junior Training Group
This group experiences an introduction to the basic skills of athletics using the England Athletics 365 programme of 'Run, Jump, Throw'.
Emphasis in training sessions is on enjoyment through personal improvement. Regular attendance guarantees improvement.
Training times are as follows:
Years 3 and 4: Mondays and Thursday at the Track 6:00pm - 7:00pm (Indoors during the Winter) Please arrive by 5:45pm
Years 5 and 6: Mondays and Thursday at the Track 7:00pm - 8:00pm (Indoors during the Winter) Please arrive by 6:45pm
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow ample time for registration and warm up.
Athletes are encouraged to compete in the monthly Devon Sports Hall League and Gliddon & Squire Cross Country League during the winter and the Devon Series Track and Field Series in the summer.
As soon as Year 6 athletes reach 11 years of age they also become eligible for the North Devon AC team which competes in the UK National Young Athletes League.
Each group operates throughout the year and in all safe weather conditions.
Athletes should bring appropriate clothing for the weather conditions on the day – always bring warm, waterproof clothing, hat and gloves in the winter.
Sprint Group and Hurdles Group: Gary Gehan
Wednesdays and Fridays (other sessions will be available)
Training starts at 18:30. Please try to arrive by 6.15 in order to have time to register and warm up.
Expectation is that you to attend regularly. Winter training is all about building up your strength and stamina for next years competitions. Due to the progressive nature of the winter training program, it is essential that you attend on a regular basis. Anyone missing successive sessions will struggle to keep up in the next session they attend. This in turn will affect your ability to compete strongly next season.
We will also expect you to take part in the Sports Hall competitions
Training ends at approximately 19:45 (although there are possibly a couple that may run over, depending on how you get on!) — and we expect you to complete the sessions!
Middle Distance Development Group: ‘Steve and Chris’ Group’.
This group is for athlete's who wish to concentrate on running. Sessions still maintain a general conditioning approach while introducing specific interval training to improve their times over a range of distances from 800m.upwards. Entry to this group is normally dictated by progress in the Primary Schools group but new members from Year 7 can join directly into the group,
Senior Middle Distance Group • ‘Mark’s Group’ Meets at 18:15.
Speed through strength — realise your potential!
This group caters for 400m, 800m 1500m though to 5000m including steeple chase.
This is not age group led and is open to anyone prepared to commit and wishing to take ownership of their training. We currently have athletes ranging from 13 to 60.
All sessions are graded by ability and not age. We meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays and most Sundays at various venues. Check the diary.
Involves a comprehensive program of: Endurance, Interval sets, Hills, Threshold, Plyometrics, Circuits, and Weights.
Athletes feed in mostly from the Development Middle Distance Group but athletes from all groups do and are welcome to drop in any time.

Throws Training Group • ‘Colin’s Group’
Throws group is run by Colin Petty, Mike Carty and Colin Dart. It’s open to anyone preferably over 13 yrs of age who isn’t interested in busting their lungs running round the track but would like to throw shot, discus, hammer or javelin.
